Milestones and Cycles
Milestones are date markers on the Timeline that represent deadlines, releases, or other significant events. They can optionally define a cycle — a date range leading up to the milestone. This page covers how to create, edit, and interact with milestones.
Creating a Milestone
On the Timeline, click any date cell in the header row to open the milestone dialog for that date. The dialog title is New Milestone.
Milestone Fields
Title — required. A short name for the milestone.
Description — optional free-text notes.
Milestone Date — required. The date the milestone falls on. This is the date shown on the grid as a vertical line.
Colour — click the swatch to open a colour picker. The chosen colour is used for the vertical line, the diamond marker, and the cycle band.
Priority — optional. Low, Medium, High, or Critical.
Budget — an optional numeric value. Only visible when budget fields are enabled in organization settings.
Toggles
Enable Cycle — when turned on, a Cycle Start Date field appears. The cycle start date must be on or before the milestone date.
Triggers Dependency Warning — when enabled, moving or resizing a Task past this milestone on the Timeline triggers a confirmation dialog warning that the milestone will be violated.
Lock — a lock toggle. When locked, the milestone cannot be dragged on the Timeline.
Click Create to add the milestone. It appears immediately as a vertical line on the grid.
How Milestones Appear on the Timeline
Each milestone is drawn as a coloured vertical line running the full height of the grid. A diamond marker sits at the top of the line, and a chip with the milestone title is displayed nearby. When the milestone is locked, a lock appears on the chip.
If multiple milestones share the same date, they are stacked with a small vertical offset so they remain distinguishable.
Cycles
When a milestone has a cycle enabled, a shaded band stretches from the cycle start date to the milestone date. This band visualizes the working period leading up to the milestone — for example, a two-week sprint or a monthly release window.
The cycle band uses the milestone's colour at reduced opacity. A second (left) diamond marks the cycle start.
Resizing a Cycle
Drag the left edge of the milestone bar to change the cycle start date. The milestone date (right edge) stays fixed. The cycle start date must always be before the milestone date, with a minimum width of two days.
Moving a Milestone
Drag the milestone's diamond marker left or right on the grid to change its date. If the milestone has a cycle, the entire bar (cycle start and milestone date) moves together, preserving the cycle duration.
Locked milestones cannot be dragged.
Editing a Milestone
Click the pencil on the milestone bar to open the edit dialog. The dialog title changes to Edit Milestone. All fields can be changed. Click Save to apply changes.
Deleting a Milestone
In the edit dialog, a Delete button appears. Clicking it opens a confirmation dialog: Are you sure you want to delete this milestone? This action cannot be undone. Confirm to permanently remove the milestone.
Dependency Warnings
When Triggers Dependency Warning is enabled on a milestone, any attempt to move or resize a Task past that milestone's date on the Timeline opens a confirmation dialog. The dialog lists the affected Tasks and the violated milestones, and asks whether to proceed. See the Dependencies and Chains page for details on the confirmation flow.
Hiding Milestones
If milestones are cluttering the grid, you can hide them all at once. Open the Timeline configuration (gear in the filter bar) and enable Hide Milestones. This removes all milestone lines, diamonds, and cycle bands from the grid without deleting them.
