Splitting and Merging Tasks
Time Flow lets you split a Task into two, or merge two Tasks into one. Both actions are available from the Task dialog on the Timeline.
Splitting a Task
Splitting creates a new Task by dividing an existing Task at a specific date. Time entries logged on or before that date stay with the original Task; time entries after that date are moved to the new Task.
When Splitting Is Available
The split option appears in the Actions section of the Timeline Task dialog when:
The Task is in Doing or Done state.
The Task is not archived.
The Task has time entries logged against it.
How to Split
Open the Task dialog from the Timeline.
In the Actions section, look for the Split Task area. It shows a table of dates with logged hours and entry counts.
Click the split on the date row where you want to divide the Task. The icon appears from the second date onward.
A dialog titled Split Time Flow Task opens with two fields:
Title — pre-filled with the original title. Change it to describe the new Task.
Description — pre-filled from the original. Edit as needed.
Click Split to create the new Task.
An info message in the dialog explains the split date rule: all time entries after the chosen date are moved to the new Task, while entries on that date and earlier remain with the original.
Merging Tasks
Merging combines two Tasks into one. All time entries from the source Task are transferred to the target Task, and the source Task is permanently deleted.
Merging cannot be undone. The source Task and all its data (except time entries) are permanently removed.
When Merging Is Available
The merge option appears in the Actions section of the Timeline Task dialog when:
The Task is in the Doing state.
There are eligible merge targets (other Tasks in the same category that are also Doing).
The Task does not have other Tasks depending on it (no child dependents).
How to Merge
Open the Task dialog from the Timeline.
In the Actions section, find the Merge With area.
Select a target Task from the dropdown. Only Tasks in the same category and in the Doing state appear.
Click Merge.
A confirmation dialog appears: All time entries from [source Task] will be transferred to [target Task]. The source task will be deleted. Click Merge to confirm, or Cancel to abort.
Constraints
A Task that has other Tasks depending on it cannot be used as a merge target. This prevents breaking dependency chains.
Merge targets must share the same project category as the source Task.
Both the source and target must be in the Doing state.
Splitting requires at least two dates of logged time entries so there is a meaningful point to split at.
